The STRENGTHENING CONSERVATION CAPACITY PROJECT emerged as result of an increasing recognition that long-term conservation of biodiversity requires strengthening of in-country capacity of various groups who have a stake in the use and management of these resources. Limited capacity is one of the major causes for the current problems in the conservation sector in the country.
While there have been a number of training opportunities for conservation management, the overall impact remains relatively low due to poor integration of conservation management components within the local organizations. Consequently, the project has been initiated to do an analysis of the existing needs and focus on bridging the gaps in capacity building at individual and institutional levels from a community level up to the local, provincial, regional, national and international level. The project has, is and will be sourcing from the existing pool of skills and experience to build vibrant conservation mechanisms to strengthen the conservation capacity in Papua New Guinea.
